Like a lot of people, I am a big fan of music. I’m also incredibly picky about it, although in a weird way. Just like how I feel about movies, music is personal. Quality is not necessarily what I’m going for. I want something that makes me happy, or sad, introspective, turned on. Basically I’m interested in music that makes me feel.
Now there was a time I listened to certain types of music to get in guys’ pants. I think my obsession with punk in the late 90’s had a lot to do with the hot punk/skater guys that liked that particular genre of music. When I was in middle school I totally liked this guy who was into ska. It’s the only way I can rationalize my Reel Big Fish CD, a band I rarely admit to listening to. But I’m getting old and public mockery doesn’t scare me as much anymore. So laugh if you want.
So, thinking with my dick, I decided to like punk. Mostly pop punk. Before Blink 182 fucked it all up and made me go Emo, hence the obsession with Bright Eyes. But what started as a way to get some ass became a bit more life changing. I mean, I got a hot boyfriend, and a lot of orgasms, out of it so my original focus came true. But punk rock was the best cure for my teenage angst. I thought, and still do, that NOFX’s Liza and Louise is one of the coolest songs ever. And probably a reason for my bisexual leanings.
Over the years I’ve realized my tastes rely heavier on pop than punk or rock. But my pop is usually subversive in one way or another. Madonna is pretty fucking punk rock if you think about it. That bitch don’t put up with anyone’s shit; she does whatever the fuck she wants. I’ve learned that just because you can dance to it, doesn’t make it any less badass. Lessons to live by people.
I’ve also learned that when you bring a person home, you gotta have some music to get in the mood. A seduction mix. I like to call it a hipster seduction mix because, well, I love to seduce a hipster.
Now you may wonder, “I’ve already got the person in my room, a seduction mix seems a bit redundant.” But if you start running out of things to say, you need a little music to fill the dead air. And, while I love Bright Eyes, you don’t want music playing about the futility of life. I’ve tried to have sex to Bright Eyes. It doesn’t work, I promise. Even though I’d love to make love with Conor Oberst of Bright Eyes. So I’m constantly working on my seduction mix with a few staples, like “Playground Love” by Air. To any person who wants to get in my pants, if you play that song I’ll suck anything you want.
So here is my current hipster seduction mix. I tried it out on the guy I’m currently dating. I don’t know how he feels about the music but I do know that I’ve had numerous orgasms since I originally brought him home and played these songs.
